Samick LW-028 GSA, bearbear, Kishun, Guitar class

I finally bought my Samick LW-028 GSA! Catch the reviews here at Harmony Central.

On the whole I am quite happy with it, considering I paid $245 for the guitar, a padded kit bag and a cheap electronic tuner. I think it is true from what I read from the internet (for beginners) to select a guitar you like even though it might not be considered good - after all, we won't want to lose interest so quickly! I did not really appreciate the sound of other guitars actually, until after the past few days when I have been strumming bad chords that I gradually take note of the differences. Now I quite like FDR's guitar (a colleague of mine), though thinking about the price of $300+ for the guitar alone, maybe I shall spring that type of money for the next guitar a few years later if I am still on it!

On last Sunday after buying the guitar I also went to L's (a colleague) wedding dinner at this temple that has its origins from Taiwan. It is really absolutely amazing! He only spent a couple of hundreds for a full vegetarian 8-course dinner, as the facilities are sponsored by the temple and the manpower, fellow devotee volunteers! Absolutely amazing! I can't wait for the wedding photos to come and I shall post them once they're in my hands. It was during the dinner that I met with another guitar enthusiast TM (AM's (another colleague) husband) who shared with me the great tip for building callouses so that I can play the guitar without much pain in the finger. Other than strumming for fun, do use the shaper end of the nails to poke against the fleshy tip of the fingers and that will promote growth! I have been trying rather conscientious over the past few days and I can feel some callouses growing! Amazing!

Some naughty students of mine took my bear stationery case out for a stroll and accidentally dropped it into a "hole". I have no idea what that is and they refuse to tell me. As such I have to put poor bear under the torture of the washing machine! Right now it's enjoying some free suntanning.

During last week's Japanese class, we asked our sensei if she knows of any second-hand book stores that sell Japanese books and she recommend Ki-shun. It is located at Hong Leong Building #B1-13 and after cramming for JLPT2 my friends and I made a visit. It has been amazing! Lots of Japanese books and I finally discovered a series of novels I have been hunting high and low for since... MOELC! Allow me to explain - when I was learning Japanese last time, I had always wanted to hunt for books that have furigana (phoenetics to the Chinese characters) as I think I can learn a lot from there just by exposing myself but the novels I saw were all adultish (such as Invisible Man) and are complex. I finally found this series of novels/readers that has been written for primary school Japanese students in mind, using easier language patterns and helpful reading tips! All at a cheap price as well! It goes for $13.80 at Kinokuniya and the shop resells it for $3.80! Gosh!

My great-grandfather just passed away though I do not feel particularly emotional as he has never been a huge part of my life. Got to attend to his wake later and this evening I will be going to Pasir Ris East CC with ZH for our Pop Guitar (Elementary) course!

再见我的爱 - Cherry Boom

Samick LW-028

I have found my beloved acoustic guitar! It's a Samick LW-028!

I liked it for its whiter wood design and I just love the resonance and deep omph that it produces! It goes for S$215 at Davis Guitar Music (http://www.davisguitar.com), and I would have grabbed it already if not for the nasty little wooden splinters ZH was keen to spot inside the guitar as well as a little nasty blue smudge on its body. Great! I cannot wait for next Sunday when ZH and I are finally heading down to grab it!

Thanks ZH for being very nice to come down with me to select a guitar!

Starz In Their Eyes - Just Jack

They'll be making sure you stay amused
They'll fill you up with drugs and booze
Maybe you'll make the evening news

And when you're tripping over your dreams
They'll keep you down by any means
and by the end of the night you'll be stifling your screams

Since you became a VIPerson
It's like your problems have all worsened
Your paranoia casts aspersions
On the truths you know

And they'll just put you in the spotlight
And hope that you'll do alright
Or maybe not

Now why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
Why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
So why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
Now why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
Starz in their eyes?

Remember they said you'd show them all
Emphasise the rise but not the fall
And now you're playing a shopping mall

Your mum and dad they can't believe
What you appear to have achieved
While the rest of these users are just laughing in their sleeves

Since you became a VIPerson
It's like your problems have all worsened
Your paranoia casts aspersions
On the truths you know

And now the tabloids use your face
To document your fall from grace
And then they'll tell you that that's just the way it goes
That's just the way it goes

Now why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
It's the same old story well they just didn't realise
And it's a long way to come from the dog and duck karaoke machine
And Saturday night's drunken dreams

Now why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
It's the same old story well they just didn't realise
And it's a long way to come from your private bedroom dance routines
And Saturday night's drunken dreams

Now why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
Why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
So why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
Now why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
Starz in their eyes?

Now why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
It's the same old story well they just didn't realise
And it's a long way to come from the dog and duck karaoke machine
And Saturday night's drunken dreams

(When I grow up im going to be famous)

Behind the steel barrier and sequence and glitter
Five inch heels still knee deep in the litter
Each of them a bitter bullshitter,
Wrapped up in the cloak of fake glamour, getting lost in the camera
Well footprints are fools gold, diamonds crusts on their one off plimsolls
So little time for these one off arseholes
Rigour mortis Ken and Barbie dolls,
A pair of big shades and a push up bra,
It's such a short gap between the gutter and stars,
That you've come a long way from the place that you started
So why'd you wanna go and get so down hearted

Welcome to the kingdom of the blagger
Uncutting you nose clean, coating you bladder
A whole lot happier a whole lot sadder,
Used to be satisfied but now you feel like Mick Jagger,

Now why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
It's the same old story well they just didn't realise
And it's a long way to come from the dog and duck karaoke machine
And Saturday night's drunken dreams

Now why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
It's the same old story well they just didn't realise
And it's a long way to come from your private bedroom dance routines
And Saturday night's drunken dreams
