Maligned

Not sure if I am overreacting but...

I went for class today and was rather put down by the dreary atmosphere that the class had, possibly it being a Monday, the problem being a boring one and it is so near the end of the semester that everyone is having holiday mood swings. At the spur of the moment, I decided to uproot the class and conduct it in an open area at the library which I have always wanted to try but never had the courage to.

So I did! I was rather embarrassed when the bottle of sweets I brought to share with the class was publicly paraded and that attracted the watchful eye of the librarian. DV, a playful student, also made my day by playing with the black ball-shaped cushions that are used for sitting. Amidst the attention of the public eye (the library is, after all, a public space) I had to concentrate on asking good questions and it did not help that some teams did not get the full picture that the problem had wanted them to explore. Yucks!

Nonetheless it was a sigh of relief when the class finally ended, though I sadly wondered how many would come for my final lesson the following week. I realised I had to rush off for an IG (ECA) meeting with the Japanese Culture group which I am an advisor to which brought me back to the administrative building where the bigwigs sit. It did not help that I had to bump into my reporting officer (RO) while I was rushing so the conversation went:

"I heard you ended your class early today."

"Yeah, I only had 4 teams. I ended class at 4.20pm."

It was only on my way to my Toastmasters meeting after school that I realise I had not understood what he meant by 'early'. I definitely did not end early - given that there were 5 presentations (4 teams + my instructor's model solution presentation) and 4 Q&As, that was roughly on time! I could have been much later (especially looking at my past record). I thought harder and wondered if someone has snitched on me when they saw my class making their way to the library after lunch and came to the conclusion that I had already dismissed the class... I really hope that is not the case but I guess I have to clarify tomorrow.

Am I being paranoid or what?
