Research on media/information literacy

I felt suddenly that I should make my life count in my current institution so I am looking at research.

I am looking at media literacy and the impact of media developments on learning and especially PBL. Since PBL comes from Masters, is there a certain issue about West vs East that should be explored?

What I am NOT looking for is the impact of educational technology on learning, such as evaluating whether a courseware boosts learning and such.
