End-of-semester ideas
"Learn as if to live forever; live as if to die tomorrow."
Some words of wisdom for ___.
First day - Create a time capsule, or in their RJ ask them 3 things they will like to improve on by the end of the semester, what were their feelings of their new classmates and that can be used as a review at the end of the semester
Dear me - the students will first describe themselves and how they feel on the first day of school. The next paragraph, the students will write how they would like to change this year, what they would like to improve on or what they want to know.
Have some fun; creatively evaluate the year; write friendly letters to "inform" next year's students of things to "watch out for."
Have students think about advice that they would give to your students for the next school year. Create a banner with "WORDS OF WISDOM" in marker, paint, or other art medium.
This is good idea for the end of the year. Each student tapes a blank piece of paper to their back. Students go around the room and write positive things about each other on their papers. After about ten minutes they all sit down and remove the papers from their backs. Then they read all the wonderful things people think about them.
We have a special end-of-the-year awards ceremony in our classroom. Each child secretly picks the name of a fellow classmate from a hat. Then each child makes an award for the person they chose. Each award is personalized. Example: If the child they chose is good in math, they may make a "Math Whiz" Award. Other awards kids have made are "Great Friend" Award, "Super Athlete" Award, "Remarkable Writer" Award, etc. Then we present the awards individually in front of the class. The kids are more excited to give their awards then get them!
